Help!!

I put an edelbrock 1406 on my f100 with a 302 and it turned it into a complete dog... What do I do to fix it and make it run better and have more get up and go? It also backfires stalls and Boggs when it takes off. It's my first time doing any of this and don't know what to do. Thank you to any and all that respond to this I really appreciate it

There could be a few reasons. Lets start with the simple to check first. Start with thye timing. Are the spark plug wires in the correct firing order? Is the distributor timing set where it needs to be on the timing marks?
Maybe i should have asked first, is it backfiring out the exhaust or out the carb?
It still sounds like timing...

Yes I looked at the timing and advanced it a little and it just about fixed it thank you for your help!

Welcome to the FTE OldBlue,

One of the most useful tools, and cheap for that matter is the vacuum gauge. Can be used for setting both engine timing and carburetor tuning.

Many newbies don't read the fine print when doing a install of a intake and bigger carb.
Okay say the valves are bad in a vehicle you buy but the seller says a guy told me it needs a carb so you buy it.

You buy a 4 barrel intake & carb off ebay and managed to get it all installed with the help of many friends who know how to use a hammer an nails or a screw driver or a timing light, and a pair of pliers.

Not saying this is you tho but many who come here asking for help.

1. What was the main reason for doing this install?
Running bad before thinking it was the carb. ?

2. A seller told you so?

3.Gasoline in your veins and just have, A need for speed?

4. give us more input so we have a better idea what's going on
