Transmission Code

I need to know what transmission is in a 1987 Ford F-250 302 EFI with a transmission code of "K" . My local Ford dealer tells me that the truck is too old for him to research it. I don't have the truck here at the present time to identify the trans. Thanks.

If you look on the sticker on the inside of the drivers door it will have a section that says Trans , give us the code & Im sure one of us will be able to help you out . Do you have an auto or manual trans , that really helps narrow things down ?

I too would like to know the specific type of transmission that is installed in my 1996 F-150XLT with 302v-8 , auto transmission and 2wd.

The door code for the transmission is u.

I am having a slight problem with the transmission. It seems as though the transmission is shifting into the next higher range at too low of a speed, and therefore tends to "bog down" as it cruises. I am able to temporarily take care of the problem by disabling the overdrive--therefore not allowing it to shift into OD unless I re-enable it when I get on the highway.

I checked the fluid level and added about 1/2 pint to get it into the normal range. The truck has only 29000 miles (I just bought it from an older couple that used it only occasionally). Unfortunately, I think that they failed to have routine maintenance performed as well.

Just about any transmission shop can adjust the shift ranges for you. Shouldn't take more than about 15 minutes (of course for a nominal fee) and they will test drive your truck with you after the adjustment to be sure they shift where you want.
