Ok I am having some troubles with my '96 F-250 4X4 SC SB. First thing is I have a check engine light coming on. I read the codes and i believe it was a 171 and 174 it said it was for the left bank too lean and the other was right bank to lean. I thought these only had 1 O2 sensor so how does it differenciate which side is runnig lean? and what all can cause it to run lean. the truck runs great. I cleared the codes and they came back a bout a week later but i have not rechecked what they are this time.
Second problem. My transmission is shifting supper hard on the up shifts. and now I have noticed that the overdrive off light starts to flash after a while and it really slams into gears while that is happening. is there anyway to check transmission codes? or any one have any idea's. i hate taking things to the shop as i don't trust most of them. I like to have a good idea of the problem before i tak it to them.
well, I solved part of my problem. I recalibrated the speedo and that took the Hard shift away, except that after I drive about 10 miles or so the overdrive light starts flashing and then it starts shifting super hard again. does anyone know how to check to see if there are codes in the transmission? or can this be done with the same engine check OBDII thing??
Thanks
If there are any codes for the transmission they will come up in the OBD II check. I seem to remember that there was a reason why the OD light starts blinking, but cant remember why. I hope someone else can clue me in.
Thanks for the help, I have about 3000 miles left on my ext. warranty that I have never used so I guess tommorrow I will go see how good the warranty is and hope that they can fix the roblems with out a lot out of my pocket..
OK here is the up date for any one interested. the Engine light was due to DPFE sensor. and supposedly dirty injectors, which I had cleaned a couple months ago at a Jiffy Lube. The Tranny is puting itself into some fault situation (1728 I think they said) because it is sensing that it is slipping so that is why it is slamming in gear and flashing the overdrive off light. unfortunatly they won't know if this is covered under waranty untill they tear the whole trany apart and see why it is acting up.
On another note, I aslo found out that someone installed a shift kit in the transmission, and that is why it has shifted so hard since I have had it. How much does this really help? and should i leave it in or have it removed. does the harder shifts with the shift kit cause other problems, or does the performance out way the possibilty's of other failures?
