64 F600 Rear brake wheel cylinder

I have a 64 F600 original 292V8 grain truck with dump bed and 2 speed rear end. Truck has been sitting in shed for several years and recently got it running. Bled the brakes and got good function until I blew the right rear wheel cylinder. How difficult is it to replace the wheel cylinder and can I find replacement parts?

Parts can be found at NAPA per several others here.

To get to that wheel cylinder, you have to pull the drum. You can take everything apart, or do like my dad did and just pull the duals, hub and drum as a unit. Pull the stub axle and undo the larger nut and lock washer that hold the hub on to the axle housing.

You will have to clean or replace the shoes due to brake fluid contamination. Inspect the drum. Drums are hard to find, so keep your fingers crossed.

Double block the truck, block the axle, and have a helper--the dual/hub assembly is heavy and it will pin you if it falls on you.

In order to get the correct rear wheel cylinder, you will need to know the size of the rear brakes shoes, which on a 1964 F600 could be:

15" x 4" - 15" x 4 1/2" - 15" x 5" - 15" x 5 1/2"

Lower pic. Both rear cylinders are the same.

Thanks for the information on NAPA. I have a friend with a rolling cradle to set the duals in while removing. Hopefully I wont have to lift them to get the drum off. I'll try to post some pics of the project in progress.

You've had one leak on one side, with 2 per wheel. They all have rust pits in all so just as well do all 4 wheels. I have done this on 64 700 and 83 800. Had fun finding them for the 700.

I found the cylinders for my '74 F600 in stock at the local AutoValue parts store.

Except for the weight of the drums and wheel assemblies, the job is pretty straight forward.

I ended up replacing the cylinders on all four wheels.

I noticed the opposite dual has a leak as well. Plan on doing all the cylinders while I'm at it.
