Are there any warning signs to look for when the stc is going out?

You might get a hot no-start or hard to start, but that can be other things too. How many miles on your truck?

I've run into two guys, one camping and one at a hardware store that had STC failures and both of them just suddenly quit running, neither broke the engine plate btw...

Get the DB and let's see what all is going one, plus any service history. I wouldn't go as far as not driving the truck, maybe not go on a trip to the boonies...

Years ago you could get 'em here -- try a Ford dealer, they should be happy to print out the service history they have on it...

I went out and got an elm327 and have an app on my phone and it shows a difference of 4-6 degrees on my EOT and ECT. Anything to worry about?

So the test is: fully warmed up (ECT is high 180s or above) and driving on flat highway about 65mph for 15-30 minutes and what is the highest spread. If you did that and you have 4-6 degrees you are in good shape oil cooler wise. This is mainly just a test for oil cooler health, though other things can affect the spread and show up as well...
