I just wandered in looking for a thread such as this. Mine smells like bandaids when I first start the AC, seems to go away after 5 minutes but I could be getting used to it too. I wonder if running the heat for a while would fix things up? Anyone know if a new cabin air filter would help?

I am sorry but there are no cabin air filters on the newer F150's. I believe they stopped putting them in around 2009.
Update- Smells still there. As long as truck has sat for a period of time, soon as the climate control is turned on the smell comes out. Leathery smell to me, musty to wife. Clears in a few minutes, problem is most rides are only a few minutes so I have been leaving it off. 91 degrees and no a/c or I get stink. I tried on my trip to dry it out, ran a/c , ran vent/ no difference. Odor on start up.
Stop down local Lincoln Dealer (Benson's in Pittsburgh) nice guys, service writer come out and smells it, says they have "used some spray to clean them up in past" Dropping it Thursday- told him keep it two weeks and run it. See if they can get it cleared as I will be away. Nice guys, said they will maybe put it inside when done (large bay around back for storage) I would rather he used it everyday...but we will see.
Crystal I see you posted to this but don't know that I need your help on repair until they look at it. Don't want to offend them or have them think I was going over their head. Nice people there. But if you got some secret remedy or special code to replace the items which would help I would appreciate it. Maybe FORD isn't recalling but knows the air is bad and watching and helping case by case???
I subscribe to this guy on youtube. He really knows his Fords. He did a recent video on the AC problem and explained why it happen. I've been doing what he suggests for the past week, and its helped a bunch. I only get a faint smell for maybe 30 seconds and its gone. I was getting an extremely strong smell that smelled like plastic badaids for 5 minutes or more. The smell was so strong I had to roll down the windows, and it almost make you start feeling sick. Anyway, here's his video, really has helped me out.
but most trips are less than 5 miles with 90 percent under three miles. SO I would never get to use A/C. Have to put straight to vent and high fan for 90 percent of driving without ever turning it on.
A/C will cool truck in a mile, then I am half way home. No sense turning it on, which is what I have been doing. I got a $52k truck with windows down on 90 degree day.
Whats point of paying the extra for the AUTO setting on it if I have to turn it off and place in vent with fan on high after two minutes of driving? That's my point. I get a fresh wiff of crap, it clears and cools halfway home, then I place on vent by pushing four buttons, and refill truck with hot outside air. Just doesn't work for the 5 mile or less driver. Auto setting is more work than basic system in this case.
If its bad paint on condenser then pull it, paint it, put it back. Or make a heavier duty model.

Hi bakon,
I'm not a technician, so I don't have access to repair guides or mechanical information. If you need my assistance after you have this diagnosed, I'll be happy to get this into the hands of your regional customer service manager. Come back and tell us how things go!
Things are not good. Smell has never really left. Ran all summer and if restarted in a few minutes, no smell. But if truck sits an hour, smell.
The turn off trick doesn't help. There has to be something growing in there..
I have not taken it back. Lincoln Dealership didn't sell me the problem and I don't see a definite fix posted anywhere. Seems they all have it come back, so I tolerate the smell. Goes away in few minutes.

I just bought a 2013 F 150 3.5L Ecoboost with 29,000 miles. After driving for a couple days I started smelling this horrible musty smell. I tried looking to see what I could find and I couldn't determine what was wrong. I looked through the forums and found so many different reasons to be worried about what was wrong. I dropped my truck off Monday afternoon and was told that they would try to determine the cause. I was told that they had to take the system apart and flush it with chemicals twice. After putting the system back together, the smell was still there. I got a text from my salesman today stating that they found the cause of the smell.
Turns out there was a dead squirrel in the fresh air intake. I still want to know how this unlucky fellow ended up in there.
Vent smell just came back yesterday again. Mine goes away in few minutes. No change.
Its related to the A/C. Havent needed it until now. First time really kicked on and bam, its back.
Apart from dead rodents in the system, the evaporator pan can hold water. This leads to mold then the stink. I found Air conditioner and vent cleaner at the local parts store. I put it in the drain line and in the vents. The truck no longer stinks.
