I am having a debate with a friend on when to use recirculate. I put the a/c on for a few minutes to get the cab cool before I turn it on, otherwise I think you would just be re-using hot air. My friend thinks its better to put recirculate on right away. Which way do you think works better?
FWIW, I ALWAYS try to be sure my control is on recirculate whenever I see a dead skunk in the road and hope it switches in time. Once I'm a bit past it, I switch to outside air to vent the scent.
In my Silverado, re-circ blows harder than vent. I don't know how or why. Even with the windows open and no cabin pressure it still does. Not to mention, re-circ turns the a/c on where as vent is just that.
Its 101º outside,, the inside of the truck is 147º
You could recirc the air from the start, or try NORMAL Air for the first few minutes.
The AC can only cool 20-30º per pass, so cooling 101º air is easier than 147º, but after 1-2 minutes, its time to go back to recirc as it should have cooled to 100 or so.
I agree with MAC.....except I use NORM instead of VENT... Here in FL, the cab can easily get over 100degs in the sun with the windows closed. What's always worked well for me is to put in NORM A/C with a window cracked, and the heat will have to go out the window. Once further down the road, I then close my window and put it in MAX A/C or recirculate.
This has also worked well for me when I smoke. Going down the road in NORM with a cracked window, makes the smoke go out the window quicker and minimizes recirculation of smoke back to the evap.
My theory on this is if it's 95 ambient and 110 in the cab, I can quickly get the cab down to 95 by purging the hot air, then cool the cab with the ac from 95 instead of 110. Never proven, but seems to work for me.
