Reverse lights not working

I had a similar issue on mine about 6 months after installing brighter LED bulbs in the rear. At the same time, I discovered my dash lights flicking in and out every time I shifted gear with the gear shift lever on the column. Have not torn into it yet, but I'm suspecting a worn wire (or several) in my steering column.

Don't mean to thread jack but its related. Does the gas engines use the same auto trans as the 7.3's? I believe the reverse switch on my truck (7.3 auto) is bad as I have no reverse lights as well and my brother has a gas excursion parts truck that if the same I could swap them out to see if thats the culprit.
