Hard start

My 92 f150 with a 4.9 inline 6 has a hard time starting no mater if it warm or cold out but will start fine if the engine is warm?

1st thing to do is check for codes.

2nd is check fuel psi. But since it starts fine warm, code check is the proper way to start.

Post back with your results. Be sure to have the engine warmed up before checking for codes.

My '94 six takes longer to start than my carbed sixes ever did... warm or cold.

Warm up the truck then do this: Fuel Injection Technical Library » How To Run a Self-Test

Or purchase a code reader such as the Equus/Innova 3145

Run the Key On Engine Off (KEO) tests and stored (CM) codes. Post them here by number and during which test/display they were shown. We can help decode.

Pulling the codes is always a good idea, but if the truck seems to run ok after it's started, the first thing I'd check is the cap and rotor. if the towers have corrosion or are worn and the rotor seems to have a rough edge on the tip, then I'd change them.
