Exclamation Need Help with shocks!

00" V10 EX 4x4 and doing the modded x (add a leaf) and/or shackle not sure on exact front set up yet, and modded b codes on the rear (possibly f350 block or add a leaf) not sure on that exact set up yet either. Got the u bolts and center bolts ordered and the leafs will be here soon. Althought im not looking at doing this for another few weeks im trying to get all parts in order to slap it all together in one weekend.

The main problem im havng is getting the shocks i want here. really wanting the bilstien 5100s will also go with the equivilant Ranchos. But first the Bilsteins i found,

fronts # BIL33-185545 (w/4-6inch lift) or BIL33-187297 (w/0-2.5inch lift) only thing is idk for sure how much lift i will have after doing w/e i decide to do on the front set up. If im under the 4inch lift will the 4-6 inch lift shocks not work and if im over the 2.5 inch lift shocks is that bad as well?

rears # BIL33-236964 (w/ 3-5 inch lift) these i know will be good bc even with the just the modded bs i should get at least clost to the 3" mark if not over and with adding the F350 block or/and the add a leaf will for sure make the 3" mark.

So like i said the main problem is getting them here, it was going be around 300-350$ on amazon free shipng to kodiak ak 99615 and then i go to order and boom! NO GO! they dont ship "hazordous materials" but yet they let crack and methheads on the planes here daily but thats none of my business . Anyways kinda made me mad especially when i go to call AutoZone in anchorage (mainland) and he quotes me 600$! not including shipping. Not happening. My father has a commercial account with AutoZone, O'Rileys and i can use that for a discount but i dont think it will even get close to what amazon has for the shocks. If im being unreasonable on the price for bilsteins let me know and ill feel better about spending that much on consumables, even though i hear that the bilsteins have lasted some guys on the forum close to 100k miles?! Sounds crazy to me but thats what they said.

I will be calling the warhouse for AutoZone on the mainland monday for the commercal account and then my local shops here and see what they can do but idt they even have the accounts with Bilstein. One shop (CarQuest) is going to be getting a Rancho account going soon and that is my second option of shocks. But iv done a lot of searching and cant find Ranchos comparable to the Bilstein 5100 series at all. Maybe im not looking in the right places, althought i looked on Ranchos main webiste for part numbers and only found the adjustable shocks (dont want them) and nothing for HD lifted applications only.

If anyone has any help in this matter please let me know Maybe an online store that does ship them to places like this and are not $500-600? Even if i need to go down to a different make of shocks im willing to do that but i just dont have much knowledge when it comes to HD trucks with the cheaper aftermarket shocks like superlift, skyjacker, zone, etc., etc, on how good of performance and life exspectancy, i only know what i have read. All help is appreciated.

Also wondering if the F250/350 shocks will work for the Ranchos, found #RS5261 rears and # RS5237 for the rear both sets for 4" lifts ?

Super Duty shocks will work on an EX but you have to use the top "T" bar (or cross mount...whatever...) to make the rear shocks work with the EX top mounting points. The trucks use a through bolt top and bottom the Ex uses the cross piece.
I got a set of the factory truck Ranchos with my springs and used them for a while after my spring swap, I made up these simple cross pieces from 5/8" O.D. steel tube to get them in place.

I bought "custom valved 5100's for an excursion," whatever that means from CT Performance for I think $380 plus 25-35 shipping in the states.

Might be worth checking him out.

I think the problem is shipping to Alaska. Maybe AKEX can chime in.

Send him a PM. May be able to help out.

Having ATS X / Modded C with standard X block added on Tuesday with the Bilstein 5100's, Pro Comp steering shocks and Bilstein steering stabilizer bar.

The local shop (installer) said the Bilstein 5100 would work ?? Anyone know different ?

TIRES: Toyo A/T2 295/60 R20

From what i understand is if your doind just the x/b swab with factory Ex block in the rear you should be fine with the stardard size of shocks Bilstein 5100 is just the series, its the part number you need but if they are doing the run around on parts and install for you, you should have no issues, they "should" take care of everything u need.

My problem is im doing a modded x and modded b swap, not positive on how much lift i will get untill i actually get everything installed. Im sure there is someone who has done the same thing im looking at doing but yet to find it verbatm. The part number i listed above came strait from Bilsteins website, if you need to find your own shocks thats the first place to go. Good luck make sure you get pics before and after for us.

so just to clarify the F250 Ranchos will work on front no problem and the rear i will just have to figure something out for the top mount, or top and bottom i didn't fully understand what you said WE3ZS

X codes were a stock factory option on SD pickups, so yes an F-250 front shock will work with your planned X codes swap.
The stock EX rear shocks have some extra length built in to them, so with a mod B code rear swap you should be fine using a stock length, unless you plan on some serious flexing off road. Both the trucks and EXs use a similar bottom rear shock mount with a through bolt but the trucks use the same type through bolt top mount whereas the EXs use that T cross bar with two small bolts to make the top mount up.

If you are buying new shocks, why don't you just order shocks for the X That way you are sure to get the correct hardware.

For Rancho and Bilstein they dont make a full set of shocks that are for lifted applications. If remember correctly the fronts for Rancho were only 2.5 and no lift for rear shocks and that was in 2 different series of shocks.

For Bilstein they only had 3-5 inch lift for the fronts and no lift for the rears and i was only looking at the 5100 series.

i might have those backwards but for the most part niether manufacture had the shocks i needed for the Excursion in a lifted application im guessing a supply and demand thing made it to where they dont make them anymore. I dont see how anyone else hasnt come accross this problem, but then im guessing most people get lift kits that come with shocks and i would rather have rancho or bilstein. And all that info was from the manufacture website.

i ordered Rancho steering damper both sets of Rancho 5000 series off an F250 application with a 4" lift. Should be here in about month bc the guy at napa is saving me some $$ with shipping and ordering them on his regular stock shipment. Seeing how i want to get a few more parts for the leaf spring swap and clean/repaint the used leaf springs im not in to much of a hurry for them so it worked out for me. Thank for the helps guys.
