So I recently got my hands on a cab out of a 90 idi and plan on swapping it onto my 87 idi. The cab is bare bones, nothing inside and no doors, so when I pull the old one off what exactly do I need to do to put the new one on. I am willing to spend a little bit on parts but don't want to get crazy. I want to have everything ready so it's pull it off the old cab in the morning and toss the new one on in the afternoon. Doors, fenders, hood and everything else I am good with but my buddies are helping me lift it off and put the new one on and I don't want them having to rework their schedules more days than needed. Thanks.
As long as the cab mounts are not rusted off and the mount bolts are good. Just remove old cab and place the "new" one back on.
If you have time before setting the "new" cab on the frame, now would be a good time to treat the bottom of the "new" cab and fix any questionable areas that you can't get to with cab on frame.
agreed. i would clean the underside and rustproof it then paint it.
on the inside, i would treat any rust, prime, paint, and add sound deadener mat. it will probably be easier to swap all the wiring and dash in once the cab is mounted on the frame,it will be a lot less bending over once on the frame.
Yeah since the cab doesn't have anything on it I was planning on going over it with a fine tooth comb and undercoating it. Also my cab has been on the truck since 87 and has 1.3 million miles on it and is starting to sag a little, so I probably need to replace cab mounts and bolts. Are there any other parts that I should replace while I'm at it?
