cabover camper with smoke stack?

I have a 1999 f350 sd. I have a smoke stack on it but I want to buy a cabover camper. Anyone know if it would work? And if not, any ideas?

the truck is a long bed

I moved this to the section where most of the slide in camper topics are.

You are going to need to remove the stack and put it back under the bed I am afraid.

that room is precious and you would need to all for the camper.

The other alternative is to get a towable.

Thank you first off, second, there is no way I could possibly put a piece of. 125 aluminum on the slide in to work as a heat shield? I know clearance wise.it will fit.

I suppose you could do that. I don't know how it would stand the test of time.

I have never ever seen anyone do this.

I think I'll give it a shot. The camper is set to go costing a grand total of $200 from a retired couple unable to use it anymore. Not much money lost if it fails.

I would be really worried about heat buildup on parts of that camper that aren't built to withstand it. Even if you don't catch something on fire, I think you'll have problems with things melting.

I'm not diesel expert, but your truck looks old enough that you don't have to deal with it going into "regen" mode. How hot can that exhaust get?

I'm not exactly sure on How hot. But I have an aluminum heat shield in the bed besides the stack approximately 4" away and it doesn't get any hotter then the sun gets it on a normal day.

I think you are going to have a couple of problems with this setup. First, you would need to clamp the heat shield to the exhaust, because if you attach it directly to the camper without an air gap, it won't actually shield the camper from heat, although it might spread the heat out quite a bit. Secondly, I think that having the exhaust blowing on the underside and front of the camper will quickly coat the outside in soot and make the inside of the camper smell so bad that nobody would want to stay in it.

If you decide to give it a whirl, please let us know how it works out.

I've come to the conclusion to make my stack detach at the up-pipe and have a 45° down pipe for when the camper is on. Could not quiet come to a secure conclusion with the stack being up. Thank you for your responses

That sounds like an excellent solution that you have come up with.

Hey bro, just cut a hole in the camper and line it with Dynamat and add a pipe extension to go above top of camper.

Paint it black on the inside of the camper and call it a stove pipe for heat...
