Normally when you back one up it'll camber in, this one did it going forward sometimes as well.

Now, those were factory original with 140k and 27 years on them and to give you an idea of how easy a life the truck lived take a look at the pics of it. Then imagine what a ball joint with possibly 187k on it would be like.

Very good point! Mine hasn't had an easy life. As you can see in the pic below. Wouldn't be shocked if they were 31 years old like the truck. Thing is she runs great. I'm getting 14-15 mpg. Lower in the winter obviously, but I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm guessing everything is old as hell, but it appeared to be solid. That is the upside of all the parts I've done. They all were old as hell and didn't hurt anything to replace them.

If you don't mind spending the money, the borgeson steering shaft with the dampener, is awesome, search the forum and you can see some of the threads and some information

But for a couple of bucks you can replace your rag joint, start the truck with hood open, have someone slowly turn the wheels back in forth, while you look and watch where the shaft comes into the gear box, your looking for slow and sloppy response at the tires. movement should be crisp and nimble

a trashed or failing rag joint will give you a lot of slippage and substantial wheel play
