2001 V10 Trying to Start Itself. Please Help!

Hello All,

Let me start by explaining the issue. It has been raining here in Houston for the past few days. Really really wet outside... Went and did some running around today and the truck was fine. Parked it outside my garage and came in to take a quick nap. I woke up to my roommate telling me my truck was trying to start itself...

We disconnected the battery and everything stopped of course. Now if I connect it back to the battery the started engages and the truck turns over (without starting). With the keys in there is no difference.

Can anyone help!? Thanks in advance!

Water has leaked in around the windshield and has gotten into the fusebox, shorting the starter switch's circuit to power.

Just one of the possible symptoms of LWS - Leaky Windshield Syndrome.

Get the truck out of the rain and dry out the fusebox with a fan or a heater. Get the windshield resealed or replaced.

Or it got to the GEM which is even more likely.

I think the GEM has inputs from the starter circuits.

Nope. It only goes through the CJB.

There are other things that might cause his symptoms, particularly involving vermin with sharp teeth, but the bottom line is that the starter relay drive line is getting power when it shouldn't.

Just went through the EVTM and you're right, no connection to the GEM whatsoever that I could find...

This thing doesn't have a remote start, does it?

Update!!

Thanks for all of the replies. They helped somewhat but I was never able to get her going under my own power. Sent it to Ford Just got it back yesterday. They replaced the started solenoid, wires from battery and replaced battery. Drove home just fine. When I got home I turned the truck off and started it again, no issues.

We got a heavy rain storm last night and now I am dealing with a new problem. Went out this morning to drive to church and it would not start. After further investigation I noticed the "Starter Motor Relay Coil, Clutch Switch" fuse (Fuse 20 under the steering wheel) was blown. After replacing and reconnecting the battery it blew again when I turned the key.

Any advice on what to do next?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank yall so much.

See post #2, another common manifestation of LWS.

Also, could be a wiring fault from the dealer. Check the integrity of the wiring they replace, especially at the starter.
