Actually a web search works better than the Ford Forum Search, anyhow I was going to order a DB then ran into a thread where they said DB has gone China Man and the quality is not what it use to be so thanks for the advice on doing a search.
My advance auto parts is working well. It is also pre rotating electrical remanufacruring company change which is now done by the ones who does carquest iirc.
My best luck has been to take worn out starters to a local electric motor shop and have them rebuilt. Usually it's just the brushes that need replacement. This service feels better to me than buying questionable reman/new parts.

^^^^ this^^^^
i do not buy "store rebuilt". i did have a DB electric starter a few years ago, it only lasted about a year.
there is a shop up the road that has been in business for close to 70 years.
the grandson runs it now, and has been doing rebuilds for close to 40 years.
when he rebuilds a starter or alternator, he replaces everything.
and his units are cheaper than parts store rebuilds that usually just get the bad part replaced and everything else cleaned up,
every new starter i have used spun hte same speed . once they start to wear out is when they slow down.
the 83 6.9 used a direct drive starter. that was a bit of a problem child, but it was replaced with a gear reduction unit in 84.
