I took Them apart again today as I'm rotating the tires. Your right Jeff, the little cable is stretched. I've got new ones on the way. Should be here in a couple hours.

Okay it's not the cables. Or maybe the new ones are just worse than the old ones.

What is wrong with this picture???

I don't see anything wrong either. Except cable looks too long. I gather as it sets you can move the adjuster both ways by hand? Maybe it's what I think Bill was trying to say. 67 and earlier took a different cable. They were 11" X 1 3/4" brakes not 11" X 2 1/4" like 68 and up. Check to make sure your aftermarket supplier shows the two taking different part numbers.

Yeah Jeff I think my cables are the problem. I'll see if I can find shorter ones.

Both of these two have both the C8TZ2A178A cable only and the C8TZ2A176F cable, pivot, and lever kits. Green has at least 2 of each. DC FORD has one cable and multiple kits.

Not that it matters as far as this problem, but it sort of looks like the primary (short) shoe is installed at the rear instead of in front as designed. The adjuster link also seems like it has an awful lot of threads showing?

It's easy to check operation with drums removed - yanking the cable should pull the adjuster level up, and releasing it should move the star wheel 1 click down, expanding the shoes.

I found the problem.

Whatever these little silver cable cam things are called. The old ones weren't sitting in the holes like they are supposed to. Replaced them with new ones all is well. ( for now anyway...)
What are these things called? And can I get them separately?

They are included in the C8TZ2A176F kits. Also were separate part number C1SS2A179A. Below are the places that show both the 2a179 guide and 2a178 cable together.
