Gear shift/ always in overdrive

hey I have a 1993 ford f250. Uh its stuck in overdirve all the time and the end of the gear shift which also has a button for it. You can also turn it. But a purple wire is broken off and so thats why its always staying in overdrive. I need to know how to fix it so it can be switched off overdrive and so I will also need to get the purple wire to be fixed to stay in and not come off. Please comment an answer and if you need me to explain better.

Is the purple wire broken or is the pin on the switch broken? The switch can be popped out by putting a small screwdriver in notch on the instrument panel side of the switch and pop it out, gently. The wires usually break at the base of the shift lever, iif so solder & heatshrink, make sure they won't get pinched again.
