The 5.8 Winsor in my 76 is running hot. Hasn't overheated but will get past the L on the NORMAL on the gauge. This occurs when the truck is sitting still, temps will drop as I start moving and get some air flow. So, would a fan shroud help? Not sure what else to do, Radiator is good, stat opens.
If a shroud wont do it, I'm thinking electric fan.
Heck yeah a shroud will help. Right now all the mechanical fan is doing is circulating the dust in the engine compartment.
A mechanical fan should project no more than 1/2 of its pitch into the shroud. Allow an inch of clearance around the fan circumference to account for engine shift and vibration.
Add a bottle of Redline "Water Wetter" or Royal Purple's "Purple Ice" to reduce surface tension and promote heat transfer.
Btw, that stock gauge is as accurate as 00 buckshot. I suggest installing an aftermarket gauge.
