1990 Ford F150 351 Cleveland

Good afternoon!

Sorry if this is the inappropriate forum but I'm interested in buying this 1990 F150 with a 351 Cleveland.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...25564019&Log=0

It's got great mileage for the year, my favorite body style of any f150, and I'd like to use it as a project to learn how to do my own maintenance. Is this a good fit? Are there any glaring issues I should know about?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Well, the link dead.

BTW, they didn't offer a 351 Cleveland, it would be a 351 Windsor. The Cleveland hasn't been around since the early 70's.

Thanks Freight. Looks like the link was too long for the forums - here it is shortened. Cars for Sale: 1990 Ford F150 in Grayson, GA 30017: Truck Details - 325564019 - Autotrader

I know they stopped production of the 351 Cleveland a long time ago but it is advertised as having one. It's more likely to have a Windsor, right?

Yup, Windsor.

Typical ad. Can't count the times that stuff is incorrectly put in these. I think car dealers are worse then private owners. You would think a dealer would have the knowledge to put the right information down, or at least proofread it. I search for stick shift trucks. How many times I see it as such and look at the picture and see an automatic. Ugh. Same with engines. Says V8 and pictures is I6.

Thank you for your help Freight. Are parts still "readily" available for that make and engine? I'm a hands on guy that builds and repairs computers as a side job and would really like to know how to do basic maintenance and repairs on automobiles. Plus it really is my dream truck.

Yes, you can get just about anything for a small block Ford. It is in the same family as the 302.

It is a good, reliable, long lasting engine with just basic maintenance. The truck looks pretty clean/rust free for the money. The only drawback is the fuel mileage will not be great, especially being 4wd.

You did notice it was 4wd? Again, bad ad. It says 2wd, but you will notice the 4wd shift lever down on the floor in front of the seat.

I saw the shift lever on the floor but since the ad says 2wd and automatic I thought it may just be a photo of a different 1990 f150 or something. Here's the pic: http://images.autotrader.com/scaler/..._A.562x421.jpg

The reason I think that is because at the bottom it says it's from a dealership in North Carolina but the AutoTrader ad says Grayson, GA. Who knows, I need to just call the guy after work. The ad also says Automatic. Is that correct, or is it manual?

Again, thanks a lot for your help. +rep

The transmission is shifted on the column, so it is automatic. The floor shifter is for 4wd.

Like I mentioned, poor ad posting. I see a dealer "slip" on the dash in one pic,

but the other two show it sitting in a back yard.

It's probably done on purpose to get you to call to get the run down.or it's plan laziness. I think it's the ladder

I see some body panels have been replaced. Where it says EFI under the driver's side headlight should say 4x4 if it is a factory 4x4 truck. I take it that the hood is original and the panels around it are not, based on the paint condition.

Passenger side of the rear bumper is all twisted up.

The 2 pictures in the backyard are from August 25, 2010 if the date on them is correct. And only the interior picture has a "GTCarlot.com" watermark on it and says the year and stuff at the top. Based on that, the interior picture is NOT from this truck and is a photo of one of those trucks NEW. Which would explain why the front says EFI but it clearly has a floor shift manual transfercase. I mean look at the condition of the seat, that's definitely not a picture of the truck that's for sale.
