302 idle speed?

302 idle speed?
Can anyone tell me what my truck should be idling at i just installed a tach and i think in park its idling about 800 or so and drops justa bit when in drive ... should it be higher than that or dose that sound ok?

That is what mine is set at. when I first got it, it was idling at 500, thought that was too low so I set it at 800. seems to me that any lower and U aint gonna have oil goin to the top of the motor, but I could be wrong about that.

I like to see about 700 in drive, 900 in park. Make sure you set it when it's warm though, so the choke will be off. If you set it cold, the choke will raise the idle speed. Reason I like that speed is because when you go from 700 to 900 RPM, the oil pressure jumps about 20%. It probably doesn't matter, but it's good for peace of mind. TK
