Army Surplus Tire Help

Alright, so recently I got a 4" inch lift kit for my truck. My truck is a 92' F350 4x4. I'm just tying up some loose ends with the lift, and it's time to start looking into buying some wheels, and tires. I have taken quite an interest in the surplus tires or "OZ" tires. I'm mostly going to use the truck on the street with some mild off-road. I've been doing a ton of research on the tires lately, and have not found anything concrete for my truck. I just really want to know. Will these tires work? Do they rub, or touch anything? All I really know at this point is that I have to get new 16.5 wheels to go with them. I've seen a couple guys on the forums here that have them. I'd go in on em' tomorrow if knew they'd work. If anyone has any experience, and or details on these things it would greatly appreciated. Thank you.

the radials are way better than the bias ply tires, they are good road tires, but both of them are only marginal off road tires.

Ponykilr on the '92-'97 forum put a set of the radials on his F-350. He said they had a fair amount of vibration at first but he had them trued (which required removing quite a bit of rubber if I recall) and then was happy with them.

I've been running the 37" Goodyear Military OZ tires for years now on my stock height 86 F350. Tiny bit of the front fender got trimmed off (previous owner had smashed that bit up offroading with 35s). No rubbing or issues at all. Driven them across 4 states now and still haven't had any issues with needing them rebalanced yet. '

They are VERY solid tires so they last a long time, but on that note it can be a PITA to find a tire shop that can mount them if they aren't used to the big stuff. Older picture, but shows how they sit (note that the first picture the bed is loaded and that damn shell weighed a ton).

Seeing as you're in SoCal, I take it you're grabbing them from "100DollarMan"?

I really like the looks of that 86 F350, it makes me miss my 83 I had.

I am considering a set of the BFG Baja T/A or Goodyear MT/R HUMVEE Take-off's for my 74 F250. I'll be working in Seattle on and off for the next couple months and figured it might be a good time to snag a set or two and put them on a truck of barge to Alaska.

The reviews from a few members here as well as a few folks on a local 4x4 forum say that they are good tough tires, not as good off-road as some more aggressive tires, but pretty hard to beat for the money.

Some tire shops will have a real hard time balancing them, some folks use shot or BB's. X2 on getting the (pic 3)gen 3's Baja T/A's and not the (pic 1) bias ply Good Year Wrangler MTII 36's or the (pic 2) 2 gen 37's, heave tire like 80 lbs a piece.

You can get the stock bead lock rims to fit the rear (D60/D70), the rims are 8 on 6 1/2 bolt pattern, but they will NOT fit the front. They are like 7" off set and will hit the tie rod ends, you can have them recentered though.

I haven't really decided on where I'm going to pick them up. I've called 100dollarman and never got a call back. I'm planning on ordering them online. So far the place that I am heavily considering is this place: Trail Worthy Fab I would have loved to get them locally, but it looks like online is the way to go. They got the tires for $125.00 each. As a note the tires have to shipped via truck freight, and they won't be able to ship directly to your house (this looks like the case everywhere from what I've seen). They have to be shipped to a truck terminal. Which isn't too bad. The closest one to me is in Sun Valley at the FedEx freight depot.

100Dollerman is basically a big dirt lot with some storage buildings. I just drove out there (while visiting SoCal) and talked to the kid running the forklift. $500 flat and had 5 tires loaded up. Not a pretty drive out there; nothing but heat and wind farms...

Had a different set on my 79 F250 with a 73 cab (and 99-04 Superduty 4" leafs). Slightly over stock height of a pre-77.5 pickup.

I miss those old trucks...

Here they are on a stock height '74 Highboy

And here's a little better side picture..

I ordered mine off of ebay.. Got them for $50 apiece, + freight.. Mounted them myself at work, with a lot of help from our cheetah bead seater.. They were too big to fit on our tire machine...
