Well first of all you can do a couple of things, you can get new pads and have the rotors turn or if the rotors are not within specs then you can replace everything. We changed out the rotors and brake pads from ford, because my dad hates brake dust all over his rims. He order all the parts and they are for heavy duty. No brake dust that I can see, but I am sure you can buy from advance auto, auto zone, and someone will chime in and help you with your decisions..ROLL TIDE.
I am running the Hawk LTS pads and am happy with them. They have made 0 noise and definitely feel a bit better bite when I get on them. I changed the front rotors because they were given to me by a supplier but in the rear I just slapped in the new pads and left the rotors alone.
At 70k I replaced my pads, rotors, hardware and brake fluid. The pads on my truck were still good but I was getting a little pulsation so I figured that the original brakes didn't owe me anything and I just replaced them.
I bought the Ford Blue Severe Duty brake pads, they came with all the hardware, were reasonably priced, no dust or noise and stop great. I bought A/C Delco Pro rotors cause they are powder coated on all non braking surfaces.
Very Happy so far, and I install this set up on most all of my customers trucks, from 1/2 to -450's, no complaints so far.
