Hello all, like a lot of you I was frustrated with the Ford provided caps for the holes in the bed when you remove your factory fifth wheel hitch. I saw some older post on here about an aftermarket product from "fifthwheelcap.com". I ordered a set last week (about $119.00 I believe) and you get all five hole covers (including the big one in the center). They arrived Saturday and when I opened the box I was very impressed with the quality of these aluminum plugs. I have not installed them yet because the hitch is in, but they look like they will last for years, look much better when installed and won't pop out if you kick them or hit them with something when loading the truck with stuff. Just passing this info along. -Glenn
Hello Scott, here is the link: HOME
They are $119.00 plus $10.00 shipping. Nice product and if I had a CNC machine would make my own.
Never seen them before but I like them. Those stock ones are always falling out on me.. You will have to let us know what you think once you get them in I fill my bed up with mulch once a year and pick up pallets of stuff on occasion I wonder if they would interfere with that. Either way it's better than having no cap or loosing the rubber cap as your shoveling mulch.
Blapensee, these things lock in with an allen screw on top, as long as that screw is tight I don't see anyway they would come out (within reason). -Glenn
I've seen these before and they do look nice. But tools to take them in and out means to me that they would come out once and never go back in. They also look like they would stick up enough to be an annoyance when shoveling something out of the truck bed as Blapensee pointed out already. But, to each his own. I have no plugs or grommets, dealer screwed me out of them, I just roll my rubber mat over the holes when the hitch is out.
Although they are taller than the plastic caps - they do look nice, but then most billet things do in my opinion.
However, that's $130 I can use elsewhere. The caps in my truck snap in pretty tight, but I suspect that they'll loosen up after a few more cycles.
No more often than I pull my FW hitch out, I will stick with what I have and use a couple dabs of black RTV under the caps to help retain them if they get loose.
