Adding the 5th Wheel prep later
So my good friend who got my dealers first lariat now wants a gooseneck. Has anyone added it yet? I know guys who did it on the previous SD with the factory set up, but I'm not sure if it is doable with the new box frame.

We are having the Ford fifth wheel/gooseneck prep installed a week from Friday. It was very hard to find a place to do it. Ford dealers acted like they never heard of such a thing, and truck accessory shops and hitch shops would only install after market products. After many calls we finally found a hitch shop 1 1/2 hrs from our home that will do it.

Installing the hitch subframe and hitch itself isn't so bad, but what is the solution for installing the in-bed plug? Cut a hole in the side?

I had to cut the bed holes for the mounts, but they included the tool that gets the holes perfectly placed every time. Yes, cutting those bed holes was a bit un-nerving, but it was super easy. The Reese kit also came with all the rubber plugs for the mount pucks to keep debris out of them when not in use. I think it took me about 1.5 hours to install the kit in my Ram. I literally did it in my driveway.

I'm not sure what you mean by a brace? But the Reese system is a full sub-structure that mounts under the bed and is bolted directly to the frame. I have not looked into the system for the new Fords, but on my Ram it was rated for 30,000 pounds with the gooseneck system.

I spoke with Reese on February 7th and their kit for the 2017 Ford SD is still in engineering. They said to check back in 6 - 8 weeks. They said if we needed it sooner to buy the Ford's kit:

Well that was quite some time ago.....I think around the $550 - $600 range?
I have not priced it recently as I ordered my new truck with factory prep.
I also have not priced the factory system as a stand alone after the fact. (If your truck doesn't already have it)

I was just on E-trailer, the B&W kit looks like a nice setup, especially if the gooseneck is the main usage. I wonder if the bed comes off to install the factory setup that Rheingar is having done?
