Single Function Fuel Reservoir

Hey guys,

Has anyone here successfully bypassed the single function fuel reservoir on their truck?

Mine is a 1986 Ford F250 4x4 with the 5.0 EFI.

It has this reservoir and a fuel filter to the front of the high pressure pump.

Nope, truck has a single tank. This is a single (filtered) reservoir.

It is a feed and return reservoir. I saw where someone had bought two 8" or 12" pieces of steel fuel line, and omitted this reservoir. But...I was just wondering if this was a common modification, or not...and if it all worked properly.

I wouldn't recommend it. It does more than just hold a filter. It serves as a reserve of fuel for the high pressure pump. Do a search of the term 'swirl-pot'.

Here's one link:

I've also attached a schematic of what is essentially the fuel system on out trucks (I have an '85 EFI 5.0).

Hey there,

Thanks for the info. I decided to just leave it in place. Sucker sure was hard to get opened up though!
