Hey all,
I have an 83 Ford F100 and, only lately, it has been sputtering and loosing power around 60 mph but only in 4th gear. Its fine in all the other lower gears and accelerates normally in the other lower gears but in the top gear, it won't go faster than 60 and will begin to slow the truck down even when on the accelerator at full throttle. We replaced spark plugs, the carburetor is a new refurbished MotorCraft 2-barrel, and the transmission is a newly rebuilt 18. Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks guys!
EDIT: Also, all the vacuum hoses on the carb are plugged off except for the vacuum advance.

Reason: EDIT: More accurate title
What motor and carb (Motorcraft ?? 2100/2150?) are you running, by sputtering you don't mean back firing correct? If so I would suspect timing is too far advanced. or does it feel sluggish as if maybe the fuel pump is not keeping up (fuel filters/Fuel pump test)
Wow, I can't believe I forgot to mention its a 302 and the carb is actually an AutoLine C8165A. We have checked the timing and it seems fine and by sputtering we do not mean backfiring. The fuel pump has been replaced already and we are going to go check the fuel filter now since we had an inkling it might be that and I'll update later!
