How do you know when it's done cleaning the filter? There is a quick note on the screen the states " clean filter " or something like that. There have been a few times when I step out of the truck you can feel the heat a smell a slight burning smell. So I probably didn't drive it long enough to finish the cycle.
I just went through a regen cycle yesterday. It took about 20 minutes on a stop and go highway. I have an OBDII-TorquePro, but it does not function properly and I got no meaningful data. Soot % was about 150 when it started and it went as low as 1.1. How can it be 150%?
The easiest way to determine a regen (if you miss the "cleaning exhaust" light) is as has been noted, by watching the fuel consumption. There are a lot of things one can do through the "settings" menu, but regen information is not one of them.
I have a Dashboss, I'll have to go through parameters and see if I have EGT,s. Right now I'm only driving thirteen miles to work. Only have fourteen hundred miles on her right now. Still learning this new technology.
I wish Ford Motor Company would have simply put an indicator light on the instrument cluster that goes on when regeneration begins and goes off when it ends. I know that the intention was, and is, to make the operation of the system as un-noticeable to the operator as possible and not have it be something of great concern as it shouldn't be. The truck will tell you when something is wrong... in most cases. I think Ford misunderstands the characteristic way of thinking of the people who own and drive their trucks.
With the 08's they changed the message to run till complete and we were all very happy.
then they did away with it. Not so happy. Figured they removed it because then people starting complaining about the frequency and length of the regen.
It is time to bring the message back now with the updated emissions and SCR.
Agreed Scott. The exhaust system is important and we should be able to monitor the system just as we monitor fuel consumption and drivetrain temperatures. Monitoring the vehicle systems is just normal and necessary. Having the ability to monitor the dpf and SCR is no different than needing to see the level of fuel in the tank. They're both just as important as the other? I don't get the logic. If I knew the soot percentage of my dpf I would easily be able to do a better job of planning my driving in order to facilitate the process that it goes through. No different than the way I behave when I have less than 10 gallons of fuel left in the tank.....
On my 2015 Regen runs consistently about 20 miles. A relatively inexpensive way to monitor Regen, and other parameters, is a ScanGauge II. It works very well for me. Tells you when Regen is on and when it's done.

I have the ScanGuage II, I programed the Regen X-guage and the Soot Level X-guage. The regen gauge says "Off", does it say "ON" when there is an active regen in progress? Trying to learn my ScanGuage better, thanks.
After the reflash my truck still takes ~ 10 miles to complete a regen so no change with that.
Also I use the Instant fuel mileage screen to confirm when the regen process has been completed.
I would also like the see a status light to show when the regen process is on. And better yet a digital gauge that shows the DPF soot level so predicting a regen would be possible.
