Temg guage bouncing (weird cause)
Here is just the results of something I found that may help somebody in the future. As I was driving down the road I was noticing that my Temp gauge was jumping from the "O" in the normal range up to the "A". I saw this before in mustang and it was low on coolant. Sure enough.....low coolant on an Aerostar will cause the temp gauge to bounce.
So I looked around to find some signs of a leak and couldn't find any. So I drove it around for a couple of days and kept checking the level and sure as rain it was dropping again. With no signs of leakage anywhere including looking in the oil. Finally on the around the fifth day of checking it I popped the hood before I shut it off then as soon as I open the hood I could hear a hissing that quickly disappeared. I started it back up to rebuild the water pressure so I could hear the hiss again.
My leak ended up being a pinhole sized leak in a hose that would only spray when the system was pressurized. PLUS it sprayed right onto the hot engine block and boiled off immediately. Thus I never saw the green stuff leaking.
