Ok so I have a 95 7.3 that I have owned for about 6 months now.
I love this truck, has never given me any starting problems until now. I disconnected the batteries to reset the truck because over drive was flashing and the speedo wasn't working, found out it was a fuse that was bad. So after that it has been really slow to start in the mornings 45 degrees. And the glow plugs are new. I got the batteries tested at advance auto. They are both 750 cca batteries. But when the guy tested them when they were connected together, they were 1250cca. But when you disconnect them they are both 750cca. He also tested the starter cable and it's good, same as the alternator. When the truck is off it reads 12.6 on the volt meter and 14.7 when the trucks on. I don't really know where to go from here. Any ideas?
IIRR the minimum CCAs for batteries size is 850. This may be part of your problem. Are the post and cable ends shinny clean? Also the starter may be getting tired. They tend to wear down after time, and as they age, you don't notice that they are spinning slower, until it is replaced, then the new starter sounds like it is going to spin the engine out of the compartment.
I just cranked my truck up to run to the store and it wouldn't crank the first time I turned the key. I had to crank it twice to for it to crank. I'm pretty sure it's the starter now. What do yall recommend for starters, where to buy them which brands are best for the money?
The Super Duty ('99-'02) starters are supposed to be an upgrade and will bolt right up. They are a gear reduction starter, and will probably last longer.
