I also found that after I made my first post. I wish they listed a part #, Amazon has one listed for less with free shipping. The description on Amazon doesn't say if it has the air tube.
I was very fortunate to find my Banks headers for under $900 during a Black Friday sale at AutoAnything.com a few years ago, when I was shopping I spoke directly to Banks and they offered me 20% off there list price and free shipping. Just something to consider as you shop around.
When I was shopping the Thorleys were my second choice, second only because the Banks were stainless and the Thorleys were not. I had looked into having the Thorleys professionally ceramic coated but that would have pushed the cost above what the Banks cost.
Headman has been having some problems with their ball and socket joints stretching and leaking, they made some design changes but even the new ones have been having similar problems.
If the Gibsons are a shorty design I would keep looking elsewhere, shorties are better than the stock manifolds but any long tube set will give you more than a shorty design.
The multiple Y design of the Thorleys should be great for improved torque output.
My EX doesn't have an EGR so I didn't have to deal with that issue, do you know if anyone offers new tubing to make up the EGR connection with the new header layout that puts the EGR port in a different position than stock?
Good luck with your decision and dealing with those broken studs, they can be a real challenge, and of course we would love to see pics of the installation and rear you impressions of the finished product!
Tom, Autoanything.com is having a 20% off sale now. I added the Banks kit to my cart and entered the promo code. Came up that the promo does not apply to the banks.
Thorley's web site so far is the only site that has a listing for the ones with the EGR air tube. Autoanything.com and Summit both list only the 218Y-C, and according to Autoanything's listing that is the non EGR headers.
"do you know if anyone offers new tubing to make up the EGR connection with the new header layout that puts the EGR port in a different position than stock?"
The pic's of the Torley's does look like it is on the back side instead of the top. If that is the case I will try and make my own tube.
I knew the X had some broken studs when I bought it, I was hoping to not have to fix them till I had a few other projects done first. Oh well, the springs will have to wait while do this. One thing at a time.
I heard that the 20% off didn't apply to the banks kit on autoanything.
I will keep my eyes peeled and see if I come across any information that is useful for you! I would like to know more about the EGR systems in these rigs. Depending where you live you could consider doing an EGR Delete? I don't know if there are any pros or cons to that choice though.
Post up some brands and part numbers, I can check them through the shop and see if I can get y'all a discount.
That's part of the problem I'm having, I can't find the part #'s for the Doug Thorley's.
I have vacation day's I'm using this Thursday and Friday to do some fishing. If I can get parts by then it would be a good weekend for me to install the headers instead.
Drunken_Unicorn, doing an EGR delete would make things easier. We do have emissions testing here. All they do now is plug in to the OBD port and check for codes.
Just got off the phone with Summit, Thorley's are ordered.
Awesome!
Very much looking forward to seeing your instal and reading about how happy you are with the performance gains! Are you doing anything else with the exhaust? Mine is still all stock from the Banks Y pipe back.

Exercise caution when buying off of amazon. You can get the wrong part and get semi screwed if you don't know better. I ordered a Spectre Cold Air induction system for my 05 6.8L as it was listed that way. I installed most of it and was to the down pipe when I gave it the OS! Without going into too much detail, the vapor canister mounting was different from 2000-2004 and there was no way the down pipe and filter housing were going to fit.. I called Spectre--they basically said TS....said the vendor got it wrong and visa versa. Anyway, after 2 hours of modifications, cutting plastic, changing bolts, and finding out that Spectre was a POS based on the size of the rubber bushings--hardly fitting over joints to where you could tighten clamps--I was successful.
Anyway-just be extra careful. I've never had problems before but the again, I'd never dealt with Spectre products-either Spectre
