Speedo problems with E40D

Speedo problems with E40D
I have a 1971 F250 with an E40D overdrive transmission with a 72 F500 dash.
I replaced the tail shaft with a geared piece and I have the proper cable and 17T gear all hooked up correct
I can see the cable turning at the dash but the speedometer bounces on zero.
I took the speedometer in to a shop and it got a clean bill of health.
My conversation with the speedometer guy is to put a gear conversion on it and change the speed sensor for something else.
I also talked to Baumann Transmission and his thinking is the speedometer should be reading something if the cable is turning.
Now I don't have any idea of what to do next

Which speedo cable is being used?
I'd compare the diameter of the speedo cable... not the jacket or sleeve but the actual cable itself. It might be too small in diameter and is barely driving the speedo gauge.

I measured the cable square drive it is .120
I have a loose cable with the same dimensions and I can spin the speedo up to about 50 MPH with a drill on the loose cable. The one in the truck seems slow but I don't know why.

2x Greg. Sounds like you have the wrong speedo driven gear. Or both drive and driven gears are spinning the cable the wrong way.
