disconnected wires?

Well I found two wires while I was under the hood the other day that are not connected at all, just laying there. These two wires are right next to the fuel bowl and I presume they should be plugged in somewhere. Any help as to what these wires do and where they go would be greatly appreciated.

I think I found where the hex shaped plug is supposed to be at on the side of the fuel bowl but can't hardly seem to get it plugged in with the position it's in.

The flat bladed one is fuel heater.leave it unhooked.the other is for fuel filter restriction sensor.yours is missing.I wouldn't worry bout it.just keep fuel filter serviced properly.tape them up and forget them.

It is possibly unhooked due to a shorted fuel heater which would blow a fuse and essentially shut the truck down and cause a no start issue. Better to just leave it off wrap it up and forget it

The fuel heater isn't a fuel heater. It's s fuel filter warmer. It's job is to warm the filter to expand the junk on the filter to let fuel flow better. If you keep it serviced properly you won't have a issue

Most fuel heater elements break and short out. Its connected to the same fuse the PCM is connected and if the heater element shorts out it will blow the fuse and kill the truck.

edit: two beat me, LOL

^^^^^ +1; there are fellas way north of Marlboro who have disconnected the fuel heater. It was designed into the system at a time when diesel fuel was not nearly as stable in the cold as it is now. Be sure to use winter blend fuel in winter, throw in some anti-gel additive for good measure, maintain the fuel filter, and you're golden.
