So I have a 1985 f250 with the 460, I've been working on it for the past few days and I have a problem. I get absolutely no power to anything unless I start the truck from the engine bay off the starting solenoid, after I do that the starter keeps cranking when the motor fires and then I get power to everything, I have yet to figure this out anyone have any idea why this is happening?
It looks to me like you have one fusible link in the wrong place as it is on the starter side of the solenoid. I believe the wire in the top right corner of the pic, the one with the orange flag, should be on the other main lug of the solenoid - the one on the left side in the pic.
Note in the attached wiring diagram that the fusible links go on the battery side of the solenoid. However, that's for an '81 truck so it is possible that yours is supposed to have some on the other side - but I don't think so. If so, they would only have power during cranking, which makes no sense.
