EGR delete methods.

I was looking into deleting the EGR ony '03 F250 and want to learn more about it. I was looking at the different kits and wanted to get the peoples opinion on what they went with, and how big a job it was to install, did you also do the oil cooler while your in there?

I was wondering if I could just weld the ends of the cooler off, stopping exhaust gasses, essentially deleting it, but valve and coolant still flows through. Amy downside to this?

Thanks y'all

'03 shouldn't set a CEL. I'm an advocate of blocking off the stock cooler. Just don't use freeze plugs. Get some stainless blanks, and weld them in.

Blocking off the stock unit will allow it to pass a visual inspection, and it gives another attachment point for the down pipe.

My vote is IPR Gen 2 or Stealth Delete. Everything else seems to leak what way or another.

This was kinda my thought process. Why no freeze plug though?

Yup. Get some 3/16 or 1/4 stainless plate and cut/grind to fit. It'll outlive you.

Good stuff.
I'm at 97k right now.
When I hit 100k I'm going to do a full service on the truck, and will probably cap the EGR then.

Can someone talk me into a delete kit over welding the ends on my existing cooler? I'm kinda failing to see the benefit because once I block the exhaust, all the heat and stress associated with the EGR is...deleted, the whole unit still looks stock, and nothing should do anything to affect the valve/ computer, so the Brain stays happy.
I was also reading that buying a delete kit and not replacing the up pipe, opposed to capping it is a nasty idea because it pits stress on the rest of the exhaust piping up to the turbo.

Also the plate is a dollar or two in materials..and I have a well equipped shop to do my work.

I absolutely advocate blocking off the stock cooler. The up pipe is supported off of the cooler not just the turbo, it looks factory. Depending on current/future emissions laws, the ability to pass a visual inspection is always nice.

A couple slugs of 1/4" stainless plate is cheep, So you can save all the money on that sparkly delete kit, and spend it on other things, like coolant filter kits, etc.

Exactly!
Well, it's in the plans. Thinking about replacing the oil cooler while I'm in there also.

The mil light will not be on,, but the pcm will still show insufficient flow if an emissions diag is needed.

The gasket between the EGR Cooler and the intake manifold is 22 gauge stainless if I remember right. I cut a new gasket out of the same material, with no hole in the middle, just the bolt holes. I did this 8 years ago and it has not burnt through yet, no exhaust flow, no burnt block off plate. I pulled my EGR last week to check it and there is no exhaust flow to it. Then it can always be put pack for an emissions test if needed
