Shortening tailgate limiter cables

Shortening tailgate limiter cables
Has anyone ever tried shortening the limiter cables? I was thinking perhaps I could press the cable out with an arbor press on one end and then re-crimp it a shorter length. And yes, I do have an industrial strength crimper.
Why, you ask? A totally custom application.
That said, I could see where you might have a use for a partially open tailgate on occasion.

True. Just thought I'd throw it out there in case someone else has tried before me.
And good thought on checking the Ranger cables. Are they the same configuration for the end-fittings?

Looked on my buddies 2000 ranger. One end is round with a bolt thru it and other end is the same slide off connector style that's on my 93 f250.
Overall length of cable , from end of connector is 17".
