I'm going to be picking up one of 2 trucks this week, money is burning a hole in my pocket. 1973 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck | used cars & trucks | Calgary | Kijiji
The big draw back is I've never had a 4x4 before. Instead of converting it to power disc and replacing the motor, I'm thinking of selling the front end and all 4x4 related drive train parts. I have a 351w/zf42 and a 351m/c6 plus I have the flywheel, clutch, throw out bearing and bell housing from a 400. Driveshafts are no problem as I have 3, neither should be replacing the motor. I have the front suspension from a f350 which would need to be converted to 5 bolt and I have the power brake system. I actually have the rear axle from the 350 so I guess I dont need to convert the bolt pattern if it's easier to change axles than hubs. Will a 5 bolt hub fit on a f350 spindle with dual piston brakes.
I either buy this truck or I buy a f450 that's a generation to old for my purpose. Thanx for your responses
Well it seems like you've got a ton of extra parts and that price is probably the lowest I've ever seen regardless of if it runs or not. That'd be over my head, but sounds like it's in your ballpark.
Up here, "ran when it was parked" usually means something major is wrong with it like a connecting rod through the block or a 2" hole in one of the differential covers etc... Was going to look at it on Monday but had an abcessed tooth this last weekend. Will look at it on Thursday or Friday. The price is so low that it wont last long and it would either get power brakes w discs, body work, motor and curbed out for $2500 or it would become a project vehicle. Either way it's a new hole for my head and a pita at first as I have no room for it for about 10 days.
Called him today after I finished my painting and fixing trany line and he was showing the truck. Guy bought it for parts for his Bronco. Was thinking old bronco when I saw the coil spring front end. There 2 more under $600 but they're 30+ miles from town. May talk to the one in strathmore as its a Scab and may talk him into delivery or I'll greyhound it there if he'll take $500. Found new pinion and crown 3.73 for a 10.5 sterling. Been looking for that for a while $150 thats cheap up here. My plates get renewed this month and I want to keep them active and save some leg work by buying another truck. 2 plates, 2 trucks paperwork stays the same everything done by computer. Drop a plate, pita time, run here, run there.
