Pictures worth a thousand words!
I've often used a flat tipped screwdriver and popped the oem plug off its mounting bracket.

It frees up an inch or two of wiring and allows you to pull it towards you a little. It can make it easier to plug into it.

Thanks, everything checks good.
I hooked up the trailer and all looks good, too.
Our trailer came with a square metal electrical box for the trailer cable connections mounted in front of the batteries. It was a standard electrical box and everything inside was rusting. I cut all that out and mounted a rectangular plastic connection box under the trailer, rewired and labelled everything. Added 4 individual wires for the brakes and split loomed everything. Also, put in a standoff 12v post in a box underneath to connect all the high amp 12v circuits away from the battery.
I have one more connection to install - the 12v charge line from the car 7-way.
If I understand this correctly -
1. The car 12v charge line is connected to the trailer battery and the 12v power converter.
2. When I am towing the alternator is charging the trailer battery.
3. When I am camping with ground power the 12v power converter is charging the trailer battery. But, if the 7-way is still connected the car battery will not be getting charged because the car relay has disconnected it.
