The E brake cable snapped on one of our work trucks. 99 F350 7.3L 6spd 4x4 CC. I am just going to get the cable from Ford parts so it doesn't have to go to the shop.
Any tricks or advice before I make it harder than it is?
The one from the foot-pedal, or one of the two going to the wheels?
Just keep in mind, the PARKING brake on the Superduty is a small drum-style brake on the inside of the rear brake rotors. They have star adjusting wheels (manual) and everything...
Either I or someone else can get you the details from a service manual if you need it.
If its like my 99 CC, the intermediate cable broke (the one running the length of the truck between the front and rear cables). I found that I also had to replace the small coupler that connects the the intermediate cable to the front foot pedal cable - there was no salvaging the old one! In fact I spent more time trying to separate the old cable from the coupling than installing the new cable.
Once the old coupling is removed, the new cable was completely installed in approximately 1 minute with no tools required. Parking brake adjustment will remain unchanged after replacing the the intermediate cable.
Thanks for the help, I haven't really looked too deep into which cable, just saw the long one had slack in it and the pedal isn't attached to anything.
