I recently purchased a new 2014 Lariat Screw with Nav and since last week the info is never correct. I have the latest software on the unit and it came with the latest A5 nav card but the vehicle is always showing way off of the road and as you drive longer eventually has you no where near where you actually are ( I mean miles off ). I have tied pulling the battery cable and removing and reinserting the SD card no luck.
I have master reset the unit a few times and Nav will work for about 5 minutes and then we are way off course according to the map again.
The only thing that changed around the same time as this is I took the stock wheels and tires off which were 20" and put on my after market wheels that are BFG AT tires but also 20" but the tires with ford TPMS installed are a bit bigger than the stock ones, but other than that the truck is bone stock no lifts or anything.
I just don't know if this is coincidence or will a very small change in tire size cause the nav to go that out of whack ?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
Changing the tire size will have an impact on the GPS. The built in GPS uses multiple inputs to determine where you are on the map so that your GPS works going through tunnels and under bridges. Did you recalibrate your truck for the new tire size?
One of the inputs to the factory GPS is speed from your vehicle. If you change your tire size the speed will be off and that will cause issues for the GPS. The built in system uses a process called "dead reckoning". The idea is to keep the GPS accurate when there is a limited or no GPS signal.
Just thought I would update this thread, last night I went out and disconnected my battery cable again and this time I left it off for 30 plus minutes and hooked things back up. Today I drove allot and the Nav was back perfect and dead on. I guess maybe the 15 mins I left it off last time was not enough. But it is back working for now.
No I have not recalibrated are we able to do this ourselves through the truck interface or does the dealer have to do it ?
Candidly, I think the best thing to do us spend the money on a 5-Star Tuner. You can put in changes to wheel size, changes to your rear end ratio, etc. Well, and take off that stupid speed restriction Ford puts on our truck. ;-( And you will also end up with a bit better performance and better gas mileage (1 or 2 mpg, more or less). But yeah - tire sizes will mess you up because the truck has to use that information or it won't know how far you went when you are in tunnels, out of range of at least 3 or 4 GPS satellites, etc.
