I changed my 2006 Ford F250 (5.4L) stock/factory rims & tires (265/70 R17) to 18 inch (275/70 R18). I was getting 12 miles per gallon and now I'm getting 10 miles per gallon. I just wanted to know if there is anyway to recalabrate the truck. I called tire shops around my area and they said they don't do this. I just wanted to know if there is any computer unit I can purchase to change this.
I just can't believe I lost 2 miles by changing the tires one size larger. I could see this happening if I changed to a 20 inch rim and tires.
the only place that can change the tire size is ford unless you buy a tuner and then you can change the size your self. Now ford will charge a min of 1 hour of labor to change the tire size.
the reason for the lower gas millage is that your when your speedo show's say 60mph you are really going 63 mph.
Now the only other way is to change the tire size to a 265/65/18 that will be close to the same rev's per mile as the stock size.
Sorry for the late respond. So the only thing i need to do is to change my tire size from 275/70 R18 to 275/65 R18? This will make up the difference? I just want to make sure.
I know I will not put on any bigger tires or rims on my truck for now. Should I go to ford and ask them to recalabrate or should I just wait till I change my tires.

I checked the size and compared to what you have in order to get the millage back to stock then should go to a 265/65 r 18. Or go to ford. it just depends on does it bug you right now and how much will new tires be compared to the cost of going to ford.
the rev's per mile difference from stock to the 25/65R18 is .1
the rev's per mile difference from stock to what you have now 275/70R18 is 2.9
Again my old stock rims were 17 inch and steel. Then I purchased a set of 18" alloy rims and tires a month ago on craigslist. The tires still had 80 percent treads on it. It came off from a Ford F350 and they really look good on my truck.
I know I'm not going to go larger then 18 inch. So I guess I will go to ford and get this re-calabrated. This way when it's time to change tires I can get the same size.
