Larger intercooler (100-200 towing degree drop depending on intercooler choice) and a high flow outlet (100 towing degrees drop) for that stock turbo. Those will drop your EGT's nicely.....for a price......
That's not a bad idea. How much do you think an upgrade like that would cost, assuming I do the work myself?
Riffraff sells the high flow outlet for about $85. It will eliminate the EBPV.
I did this to my Excursion when I first bought it. Along with Clay's turbo rebuild kit, the wicked wheel & new pedestal O-rings.
The intercoolers vary in price greatly.
The 6.0L IC's can be found for a few hundred and from what I have read will drop the EGT's a good 100 degrees when towing.
I went with the DI Intercooler (Diesel Innovations) and that runs about $1200. Put one in the F-250 in 2006, it dropped my EGT's by 200 degrees when towing and drops the Manifolt Air Temps to 10 degrees above ambient - sweet!.
The SPearco/turbonetics does great as well 200+ degree drop - $1700 to the wallet........Yes, these last two are a big pill to swallow. But I haven't regretted buying the DI one bit.
Sent you a PM with my # if you want to chat about it.
For about 2-3 years every mod I did was to reduce EGT's. I was a bit obsessed......van turbo, 4 tow tunes, DI intercooler, AIS, 6637, everything but water meth injection (which I still would like to try....)
I wouldnt call it easy, but i wouldnt call it all that difficult either. It looks more intimidating than it actually is. I pulled mine and rebuilt it last summer and reinstalled. There were times that getting my fat @$$ in position was a bit tricky, but if i can do it, im sure most others can as well. There are lots of threads detailing steps to remove with pics as well as numerous youtube videos. Just do your homework beforehand and dive in......
Its not bad at all. I think the hardest part is getting the turbo lined up with the babys butt. Once you got that evething is cake. Oh, and laying on your stomach is also hard Unless you have a topside creeper or some thick cushions or pillows to lay down on the front of the eng.
