Towing -newbie

im new to the diesel thing and i recently bought a 2002 single cab 4x4 and a camper i was towing the camper yesterday back from Oklahoma and it was having a hard time towing it up hills it higher rpm is would kinda "stutter" i guess you can say but runs good at lower RPM after being at higher RPM's the temp would rise and and the engine light would come on so id slow down until it was normal which was around 55mph i noticed this morning when i was checking out everything im not sure if its the transmission cooler or the AC condenser heres a pic can someone tell me which it is so i can replace it.. im pretty sure its the problem

That's the A/C condenser. You should pull the codes if you were getting an SES light. Trouble with a shudder under heavy throttle and load can be a sign of low fuel pressure. Did it seem to lose some power at the same time?

It probably wouldn't hurt to check fuel pressure. That's actually a very good gauge to have installed permanently . . .

You should have 50-60 or so at idle and be able to maintain 40+ psi under load at WOT.

An oil pressure gauge should be fine to test with. Just need a #4 ORB adapter if you use one of the test ports on the filter housing. There is also a square-headed plug in the 1/8" NPT fuel pressure test ports on each head; the front of the right one, near the A/C compressor, and the back of the left one, kind of under the turbo compressor housing.

what's in that condensor? Can't be ice, can it? Normally its the evaporator that ices up if air flow is low and humidity high. Looks like sand or something. Can it be washed out so you get the airflow back?

All the fins are bent, like it was pressure-washed from the side.

Yes all the fins are bent over I think it's beyond repair I'm looking to replace it and I think that's what is restricting air flow to my radiator

Get yourself one of these radiator comb/fin straighteners. They work great:

You have some spots that look like they may not be fixable. But for the most part if you take your time I think you can save your self the expense of replacrment.

The A/C condenser isn't as simple as a radiator. You'll have to reclaim the A/C system, swap it out, pull a vacuum on the A/C system, and then re-charge it to the proper level.

I have seen some dog combs that would straighten those fins a little too.
