I misplaced the Torque converter nuts for my 1994 Bronco. Does anybody know what thread they are? Someone told me I had to buy them from the dealer? Is that correct?
You probably should use the proper nuts for the specific application. I would go find a similar truck with the same transmission at the local scrap yard and pull them off. You can remove the starter and access the nuts through the hole, and turn the engine with the damper bolt.
I did this for my Aerostar when I rounded off the corners of the TC nuts. I thought the van was supposed to be "all-metric", so I tried using a 14mm or 15mm socket, which stripped the corners of the hex. It turned out to be 9/16". It was surprisingly easy to remove those nuts once I got the correct socket on them. The transmission is an A4LD, so I could find it in Rangers and early Explorers. I'll bet your Bronco uses the same transmission.
