I do investment casting/lost wax casting of jewelry. any air bubble defects can ruin a one of a kind piece of jewelry. I use a bell jar on a vacuum table and high vacuum pump (like AC guys use) to quickly (the investment has a short pot life of about 5 minutes after mixing) evacuate any air in the slurry in the mixing bowl, then a second time after pouring around the wax model. The mix bubbles and rises as the air evacuates so a temporary paper collar is added around the top of the casting flask to contain the rising investment during the second vacuuming. I took a seminar many years ago on casting dye tinted transparent plastic resin in the small studio when that was a then cutting edge exploration in art jewelry. Any air bubbles in the resin would have been obvious in the resin. He used basically the same equipment to evacuate the air in his silicone mold mix and the resin he cast into it, but remarked that you have to watch it carefully as it rose much higher than investment and you might have to play with the vacuum release valve to keep it from spilling out of the mixing bowl.

Fred , will get at yours & others soon . All please accept my tardiness on the heater restos . Everything else is ready except the painted cases . Have a few to paint .
Got slowed down a bit by the house sale & then a moderate case of shingles on my body set in . About half way thru it . Hurts like hell on my left side & back . Doc hooked me up with some serious meds . So am on the mend .

No rush, I'm primarily working on my Dad's 46 sedan and my 53 sedan right now. I prefer to wait longer for a really nice heater. I have no interest in rushing you.

Shingles is no joke. I am glad to hear you are on the mend.
