You guys were all talking about how your trucks blew away some ricer. I just thought that you might want to know there are a few that you wouldn't want to mess with.
Starions and Chrysler Conquests are worth quite a bit of money when they are well maintained, kind of a classic. A dealer wouldn't know what they were. There isn't a truck made even a lightning that can take one. You can build a truck or Mustang that will take one on the drag strip but if they have to make a turn forget it. There are very few mustangs that could keep up with one either. They are kind of a fun little car to play with. Kind of like a Japanese Corvette. Some of the owners make a lot more than 300HP, my sons car is almost bone stock.
dc-
As far as giving you a break, -how much of a head start do you want?
I do think it is funny that they stick a fart cannon and a couple of stickers on them and figure they are "Fast and Furious"...
-Of course I have seen a LOT of Ford truck owners that have done the SAME thing. They have Holley, Accel, MSD, Hooker, etc, stickers and straight pipes or glasspacks with big/wide tires lifts/lowered and they run like crap. Kind of sad also...
I think what you need to look at. Is the tecnology that goes into these cars. The japanese are producing more h.p. with less displacement. There are cars out there producing over 300 h.p. out of the factory.
Yes there are kids out there that stick a "fart can" on, and think that they can go fast. The same holds true for American cars and trucks.
I own a Toyota MR2. No stickers or park benches.
I do have a super trap exhaust.
The car came with a four cylinder.( 1600cc displacement 1.6 liter)
It produced 112 h.p. stock. Instead of going the route of cams and boring it out. Which is very expensive.
I stuffed a v6 in it. A Toyota v6.
Taking on the mustangs is no problem. One thing you have to factor in, is the h.p. to weight ratio.
I agree with torque1st. His sons car is very fast. I know. I have taken them on. Mitsubishi is known for producing h.p. out of small engines. They have been doing it since world war two.
They manufactured the Japanese zeros. A very fast and lethal aircraft back then. Air planes need to produce a great deal of h.p. with a minumum amount af weight.
I don't try to race ricers cause my truck isn't jack swift. But what brought me pleasure just the other day was this guy in a ricer was weaving in and out of traffic and got on my rear bumper like he thought he was a hemroid. I was next to another car and kept him behind me. Finally coming up to a light I got my revenge. His drivers window was close to my straight piped PSD tail pipe. Even over his loud sound system a PSD held at 2700 rpms makes a god awful amount of noise + the turbo really shrills then. Up went his wondow. No smoke though. As he sped off I got the bird and he swerved like he was trying to intimidate me. OH MY GOSH! I'm so scared of your nissan. Go ahead and hit my stock steel wheels. I'll drive home and you'll need a wrecker.
Why do some people think their small little cars are intimdating to a full size diesel truck? I go over, you go under. And I mean under if you get my drift.
Originally posted by Torque1st I hope none of you ever try to take my son in his "ricer". He would smoke all of you. But then he really doesn't have a std "ricer" accord with a fart cannon. He has an 86 Mitsubishi Starion with a 300+HP 2.6L intercooled turbo in a car that handles very well (no stickers). All you would hear is a bellow, smell some tire smoke, and see a dot in front of you! -hehe
That simply requiresd the heavy artillery: my 540ci cadillac, or my wife's Grand National.
I saw a magazine thing about a really nice Chrysler Conquest (clone of a Starion) a while back. It had the little 4-banger dumped, & had a 340 V8 in it.

The caddy wouldn't do it (too heavy) but the GN car could, but then that isn't exactly a street machine
The twin turbo mod makes some power!
The Conquest/Starion is a surprisingly easy way to get into some real high end performance. It is too bad they did not sell more of them. They had the performance levels of cars costing 10 times as much, -very strange. I had never even heard of them b4 my son wanted to buy one. It is fun to work on if you can get used to working on your knees. I will be glad when I get my shop put together. His car needs new struts all the way around.
Heres a little story for ya (although it didn't involve a common "ricer")
My dad has a 1970 Formula 400 Firebird all done over with a 500+ HP engine with NOS, blah blah blah. (he spent well over 10K in the engine alone)
Well, the day after I got the chip installed in my truck, I wanted to see how well it could do against his car. BAD mistake, he smoked me like "yesterdays meals on wheels". He was GONE.
Oh well, my truck seems to handle well with regular Ricers and their pimped out Honda Civics with the park benches on them.

Actually, the Caddy, despite being about 4500lbs, is pretty quick. Check out Car Craft's last real Street Eliminator--a 1982 Fleetwood won, powered by a 500ci Caddy. My car is heavier (his is pretty stripped, no HVAC, aluminum wheels, racing seats), but I also have more engine & deeper gears (2.73's with a TH400 versus my 3.08's with a lockup TH-200-4R). If all else fails, there's a blue tank in my truck.
And yes, a GN is definitely a street machine. In fact, it's a daily driver from spring to the first snow (which, last year, was about Veterans' Day ). It just got painted (finished last week) after a run-in with a Hyundai, & she's driving it to work--complete with racing buckets, a roll cage, & a plenty-serious V6.
I've found that ricers in general is more of a mind set/attitude than anything else. And the car relfects them. Like the ones that have the fart car, stero, etc, have owners that think i'm better than you, and the ones that do go fast fast and handle good (like T1st's son's car) generally have good minded people owning them that want to have fun.
Anywho, my truck although quicker than stock has a dying windsor in it and we have yet to get the replacement (429BB built to 400 hp with the possiblity of a 100hp nos system (just have to convince my dad though)) Now only if my sister's wedding was sooner. Once thats done my truck will have to go to back the look (only need the running boards and tonneau to complete the look) and the only stickers on it is a ford bumper sticker.(on the gas FORD kicking ***)
Geez another ricers suck post. I do agree that there seem to be alot of young punks that have no taste, worse taste in music, bad attitude, can't drive, and too much money to spend on a automobile. My problem is that most people assume that those kids only want imports. There are alot of them that drive trucks and american cars! Take my neighbors kid- 88 f250 4x4 Deisel. #1 so many stickers on the back window you can barely see out (mostly nascar and calvin peeing on a chevy) #2 big chrome rims and mudders #3 loud exhaust #4 drives around like an idiot. Sounds like he fits most of what you guys call ricers. My point is there are all kinds of a-holes out there, just like there are alot of nice people out there. Some imports are total crap, some would smoke you so fast you wouldn't know what hit you. Drive what you like, your paying for it.
Torque1st- Starions are bad a--. Great car to start with, RWD and tons of potential.
well what gets me is the fact that these ricers have stickers for all of these performace parts which they dont own. theres one thats always at this autozone which im sorry to say i frequently visit, some of them have stickers for car wax companies and crap.
I have several stickers for my car edelbrock for the carb and intake dynomax for the headers and exhaust and mallory for the ignition, i think you should only have stickers if you have a major performance part installed and that it came with a sticker.
