Yea, probably, I think all their reps are actually overseas.

Tony himself responded and gave me that nearly $700 price.

It is my experience with aftermarket/reproduction parts that unless the maker wants to pay a given manufacturer a royalty on each part they make they usually just change it a bit......in this case "most" of the makers of the aftermarket '08 up mirrors just use smoked lenses because Ford, AFAIK never offered smoked lenses from the factory.

I am still looking for the right mirrors for ME, I have found that 1A sells an adaptor harness to go from the ROUND/WHITE connector to the '08 up connector and it has a separate connector for the lights and heat functions........I'm getting closer!! also found a seller on Amazon that sells the mirrors WITH these adaptors!!

Guys, ARE the Kool Vue mirrors worth the extra $$ or am I starting to pay for a name?

I've been reading reviews on them and most are very positive.

I just got a set of '03 style tow mirrors from 1A Auto (with marker light, turn signals, and heat). My 2003 already had the "square" (which is actually rectangular) plug so I did not need the conversion pigtail (also sold on their website - round to square). I did not go through Tony, I just went to the website. Got the pair for just under $250. I know the '08 is an improved view but they were extra $$$ and I don't like the look of them on my body style. Just a preference.

I had an issue with the driver's mirror and they sent me a replacement no questions asked. 1A has some of the best customer service I've encountered in some time (save for Clay and Bob).

They are a fraction of what new OEM mirrors are so they are not going to have quite the solid construction that the OEM ones do, but I'm very happy with them. I haven't wired up the lights or the heat yet but they are solid enough to not rattle at highway speeds. They have also held up to some off-roading trails as well. I haven't decided whether to find some pins for my connector (the old Pico P/N no longer is current), buy an aftermarket connector (but I would have to buy a new one if I would have to replace the mirror), or just splice the lines and hope I don't have to pull the mirror off again.

Personally, I have not read a lot of positive things on the Kool Vue mirrors which is why I went the 1A Auto route.

Can you reply back with the year and series of your truck. Also all of the options that it has. Looks like it's power and heated glass with turn signal.

Wondering if I had an option to get you the tow mirrors with the smoked lens, then had you buy the orange ones to swap them, out.

If you would like to reply back I can dig around some more for you.

Tony

Tony, I believe it was you personally that replied before when I asked for a set with the AMBER lenses-You gave me a price of nearly $700 for a set.

I don't feel that I need to spend that kind of money on aftermarket mirrors.

I also don't think the "cheaper" mirrors on the market are for me.

MY truck is a 1999 F350 XLT Crew Cab with the older style mirrors that are power.

I have NO heat, NO running lights, NO signal lights at the current time.

I certainly understand that I will need to run new wires for the lights and heat functions.
Lots of parts outfits say these mirrors won't fit my truck, but people have been putting the '08 up style mirrors on the '99-'07 trucks since 2008 when they came out.

I have a great knowledge of aftermarket/reproduction parts from restoring my '65 Mustang.......when companies reproduce a given part if they want to make the EXACT part then they have to by law pay (in this case Ford) a royalty on each part they sell.

On the other hand if a company makes a reproduction part just a tad different (in the case of the clear and smoked mirror lights) they don't have to pay a royalty........

There is a seller on Ebay that is SELLING the smoked lenses and claims that they have sold over 1,000 sets so my feeling is there are over 1,000 sets of the FACTORY AMBER lenses out there ripe for the picking.

WILL FACTORY OEM lenses fit your aftermarket mirrors?

I believe you have a set of these mirrors being sold with smoked lenses, AND the wiring adaptors to get me from the plug on the new mirror to the ROUND, WHITE plug in my door to start with.........I just want TOP QUALITY mirrors without buying FORD OEM.

Thanks For Any help!

I hear good things about 1A and I actually bought my caps for my OEM mirrors from them.

I decided to take the risk and pick up some mirrors off ebay and I actually found the drivers side on Craigslist. I ended up getting 2011 mirrors that were power everything.
I paid $250 for the drivers side from craigslist and $275 from Ebay for a total of $525. As I mentioned, it's a risk as I am still working on my powerfold function and getting them in sync.
My used mirrors are pretty darn nice.

If you decide to go the OEM route there are two links below that will help with the wiring of the additional blinkers, defrost, running lights, powerfold and powertelescoping.

For a 99 F350 I have these mirrors that are power only, and would be a direct plug-and-play replacement.

1999 Ford F350 Super Duty Truck Power Telescoping Towing Upgrade Mirror Pair at 1A Auto.com

I also have these made to fit your truck with power, heat and turn signal. If you have the round plug, only the power would work.

We do not have a wiring diagram from the manufacturer to provide to you. If the wiring is altered they would also be non-returnable.

We carry the orange turn signal lenses on our website too, here's a link to them.

Tony, These 2 variations of the '08 up you give a link to.......they are really marked 1999s?? when they are clearly the '08 & up style?? (wow)

and the side lenses too? marked 1999s??

Regardless of what they are labeled, ARE THEY GOOD QUALITY that 1A will stand behind?

I believe that there have been ample responses regarding the dependable quality of customer service for 1A, if not in this thread, certainly throughout FTE's many other threads.

As for the links, I do not believe they need to be re-labelled at all... they are all clearly titled as UPGRADES which should be sufficient information to show that they are not the original stock mirrors/parts. Also, the images of the '08 styling serve to reveal exactly what the "upgrade" really is. JMO

Tony, Are either of the mirrors you posted links to OEM quality that I will have zero problems with? because that's what I'm looking for, I will not accept rattling or poor fitting mirrors. Thanks!

They are aftermarket mirrors at a fraction of the cost of OEM so the math is pretty simple if you are trying to calculate their quality compared to OEM. I got the 03-07 style and they look just like the OEM ones. The telescoping arms do not have the same resistance when you pull them and the internals do not seem quite as beefy but they have been working well so far. The reflective surface is top notch (no distortion) and they are the same as OEM so the passenger mirror is the same as the driver's side (no "objects in mirror are closer than they appear"). I have read some complaints about that on some aftermarket mirrors and definitely did NOT want that.

I am very picky about what I put on my truck and have learned that OEM is usually the way to go. When it's for the drivetrain or powerplant I do not compromise on quality. However, the government does not pay me the same salary as Bill Gates so there are compromises and the mirrors were one of them for me. While they are not as solid as my OEM mirrors were, they are solid enough to meet my standards. Will they last 270K miles like my original pair? Probably not. But for 1/3 the price AND I get heat, marker and turn lights it's worth the investment to me. I've been on the freeway and the trails and they do not rattle any more than my OEM ones did. While I would have jumped on the OEM train if I had the $$$ lying around, I've been very happy with my choice (I mulled this decision over for about 2 years before I pulled the trigger).

As a side note, the mirrors are labeled on their website for the trucks that they fit (e.g. type of plug), not the year that Ford put them on the truck (they have pictures on the website so you can tell what "generation" of mirror it is). They are aftermarket and don't have to follow Ford's manufacturing or parts labeling guidelines.

I did have a problem with one of the mirrors and 1A replaced it within 2 days without question. Their customer service is some of the best I've encountered.

Just my .02

Tony, Do THESE have the smoked, clear, or AMBER light lenses?

And does the RH mirror (larger upper) have the "Objects may appear closer than they are" type glass? (I HATE that type of mirror on a large truck)
