C4 transmission question

I recently bought a 77 C4 tranny. It has a "bracket" bolted to the rear tail housing. I have seen many C4s but never noticed this attachment before. It is similar to the one in this link.

The seller claims it is a weight. Is it or what the heck is it?

Its a weight that is there to help dampen vibrations, auto makers still use them today.

I have seen that style weight on the C4.

Better known as a gopher killer. Engine mounts are placed further back on the engine and this helps stabilize vibrations.
