D3VE-A2A heads were released for 1973 model year 429/460 engines. They are a lower compression closed chamber head as far as 460's go.
Porting the exh ports with some flat top pistons like .030 over bore would bump it up to a really noticeable difference. But can't hardly run low octane gas tho.
Best way is get me all the engineering numbers off that engine you can. Like off all the pulleys, vibration damper, p/s bracket, egr if it's got one, carb tag, etc. If it's a Ford Autolite 4300 4V carb with no tag look at the left front corner of the throttle plate. There will be numbers stamped in it like D3VE-AB.
I will see what I can find Jeff. There is a lot of rust and grease. I'm gonna have to either remove the starter to see the block number or if I can get the exhaust manifold off.
Be careful with the pressure washer, if you resort to that...COSTCO has some superb degreaser, that is bio-degradable, and rinses off with garden hose pressure... hope you have one near you... ??
The closest one is in vegas an hour away but I may resort to that. Tried a couple cans of the Gunk degreaser and it didn't even touch it and I didn't rinse it off until after I washed the truck. Lol I think this weekend I am just going to start tearing the front clip apart and remove the engine and tranny. So I will get it all cleaned and get some fresh paint on it.

Blocks numbers do little. Only give you an approximate idea. Ford has no identifying numbers on there engines like GM did. Engineering numbers off the accessories will be better.
