Hey guys I'm new to the forum and need a little help. Just bought a 65 f100 long bed. Has the origional 240ci, had it towed to my place when I bought it and it ran enough for me to move it around and park it but now it won't start. Turns over but no spark. Has a lot of new parts in it and I've checked everything I can think of, it's not a complicated system haha. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Still running breaker points? Assuming you replaced the points condenser - "lots of new parts" ... with a new one, try putting the old condenser back in. Check for a bright blue spark at the plugs, should have an audible snap. Check and clean grounds, make sure braided ground wire is present and connected inside distributor, and that there are no breaks or chafing on the distributor to coil wiring.
It does still have points. I did some more investigating and I found that the plug on the back of the ignition has a burnt up wire. Hope it doesn't go to far down the line.. Thanks for the help
That sounds like the resistor aka "pink" wire. They get pretty toasty! They are something like 1 or 1.5 ohms but needs to drop quite a bit of voltage. Check for voltage at the coil with the key in the RUN position. Don't leave it this way for more than it takes to test.
