Hello all, I am new to the forums and own several fords. My 1980 work truck is a converted ambulance and I am very fond of it and hate to ever get rid of it. The truck is very hard to start and when it does it will usually dies after a few minutes.I do not get spark and have gone thru 2 ignition modules and have also replaced the coil this week alone. After I replaced the coil it made no diff, however when I installed the new module it started right up and ran like dream...for 5 miles then no spark again. It has a good solid ground so Im not sure what would cause this to keep happening.Im trying not to throw parts at a problem.. any ideas? Thx
With the key on the voltage to the coil leads is 4. I checked the spark by pulling a plug and holding near the block while cranking it..[Dads old method :P] I did the same with the lead going from the coil to the distributor and see nothing. If theres a better way I will buy whatever is suggested to test it

4 volts is not enough. Double check the voltage by putting the + lead on the red/lightgreen, and put the - of the meter on a bare metal spot on the engine block. You should get around 9 volts.
You could also temporarily as a test, take a piece of wire and hook it from the battery + to the coil + and see if it will start and run.
You say you have a good solid ground, but did you know the ground for the system is the wire going into the dist and bolted inside? Check this wire and connection too.
